Colored Textures

A selfconstructed final project for a class in Color and Light.

A study in color and texture. My interest in textile materials such as fabric, thread and yarn led me to investigate them in combination with colored light. For this, a black wireframe was constructed in the volume of a cubed foot. Little holes were drilled all along the box-frame and it was painted black. This box was filled with strands of white yarn sewn in various compositions, shaping new architectural spaces. I experimented with different weaving patterns either in tension or hanging loosely, in ordered or chaotic ways.

The compositions were then lit with lights through colored filters. Experiments were made with various angles, one color, a color contrast etc. The results were photographed in a photo studio in absolute darkness, making the strands of thread pop out.
