Airport terminal Hall

Airport terminal Hall
Spring 2008

The three phases; departure, transit and arrival are main stages under the duration of your stay at the airport. That's were we usually spend a long amount of time waiting. Because of this, these functions get a higher status as rooms, rooms that are then linked together. The hall becomes a nucleus in every moment of the program and the functions belonging to each phase envelopes them as a membrane.

Simplicity is a main goal in the layout of the plan. The travellers should not have to change their direction of movement in vain. A baggage drop is easily accessible from the underground platform of the airport train. The baggage moves parallell to the traveller on a different level out to the airplane.

The lightness of the halls are enhanced by a solar screen on the side windows, with a textile impression creating a guiding play of light and shadow, falling along the direction of movement. In the central part of the hall, there are benches for rest and the ceiling is lower to create a more intimate environment. Above the security station that separates departure from transit, there is a bigger restaurant/lounge accessible from landside. This lookout point makes it possible for company to follow departing travellers visually until their departure. From the restaurant terrace you can also watch the airplane taking off.
